Kaymarie Jones

Adams State senior sprinter Kaymarie Jones (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica), who placed second at last weekend’s prestigious Penn Relays in a new Adams State record time in the 400 meter hurdles, has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 29.
Jones entered the Philadelphia, Pa., based event as the Division II leader and automatic NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships automatic qualifier in the 400 hurdles. In finishing behind only the University of Illinois’ Latoya Griffith, Jones bettered both marks with a Grizzly record-setting time of 57.98 seconds. Her time now leads the rest of DII by nearly a full second in the event, and is among the top 15 times ever run in DII.
In addition to her nation-leading 400 meter hurdles time, Jones is also an automatic qualifier and ranked among the top five in the 100 meter hurdles, and ran as a member of the Grizzlies’ No. 2 ranked 4x100 meter relay squad.
Jones was also named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week is awarded each week during the school year, and is selected by a vote of media members, ASC athletics administrators and visitors to ASCGrizzlies.com who cast their vote in the on-line fan poll.
Jones was the top pick by all voting media members and athletic administrators, while sophomore men’s lacrosse player Bryden Pelletier (Lantzville, B.C., Canada) was the top selection in the on-line fan poll, receiving 61.3 percent of 344 votes cast. Also up for this week’s award were sophomore men’s track & field thrower Wesley Lavong (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore women’s lacrosse player Amanda Hisel (Conifer, Colo.).
