ASU women recognized for team academic success
Grizzlies owned team GPA of 3.19 during 2011-12
NEW ORLEANS – After seeing seven individuals lauded for their academic success on Wednesday, the women of Adams State were recognized as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) 2012 DII Track & Field All-Academic Team, it was announced Thursday morning.
USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition was awarded to 83 institutions which held a combined team GPA of 3.00 or better. Also awarded Thursday morning by the USTFCCCA were scholar team of the year awards for indoor and outdoor track & field, both of which went to Grand Valley State (Mich.) for being the highest placing team at both championships with a 3.00 GPA or better.
The ASU women’s track & field teams were led by individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees Lindsey Grasmick (Fowler, Colo.), Sarah Lange (Brattleboro, Vt.), Kristen McGlynn (Bailey, Colo.), Cassie Mitchell (Tustin, Calif.), Alicia Nelson (Craig, Colo.) and Tayler Warren (Evergreen, Colo.).
McGlynn, an English major with a 4.00 GPA and previously the winner of the NCAA Elite 89 Award for the women’s outdoor track & field the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year, was also tabbed as a USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete of the Year for winning the DII title at 5,000 meters in May. A 10-time all-American in her time at ASU, McGlynn has now won two straight NCAA Elite 89 Awards for women’s outdoor track & field and is a 4-time RMAC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
