Common Ground
Current ENMU Athletic Director, Dr. Jeff Geiser, is no stranger to the San Luis Valley. Geiser spent 13 seasons as the head coach for the Adams State football program from 1984-96. During his tenure, Geiser collected 68 wins and led the program to NAIA Division I playoff runs in 1988 and 1989. In 1988, Geiser led Adams State to the national championship game where they would ultimately fall to Carson-Newman (Tenn.), 56-21. In 1989 he was named the NAIA Coach of the Year and the Toyota Coach of the Year Award for College Division Football. He remains the winningest coach in program history.

He later became Adams State's first full time Athletic Director in 2000 and played a vital role in establishing the department's hall of fame. In 2004 he was inducted into the ASU Athletic Hall of Fame. He is currently in his seventh season as Athletic Director for Eastern New Mexico.

Freshmen Firsts
In his first collegiate game freshman quarterback Johnny Feauto threw a fourth quarter touchdown to sophomore receiver Chad Hovasse. On the following play Feauto found fellow classmate Hansley Fleurejus with a pass to make good of the two-point conversion. Feauto finished 8-of-11 through the air for 40 yards while Fleurejus rushed seven times for 26 yards.

Hovasse For Six
In his first collegiate start sophomore receiver Chad Hovasse shined for ASU as the Colorado Springs product caught two touchdown passes. His first score came in the final minute of the second quarter. The nine-yard strike put ASU on the scoreboard. Hovasse's second touchdown came in the final minute of the fourth quarter with a three-yard pass from Feauto.

New Year, New Gear
Unveiled for 2015 is a white matte finish helmet as well as a traditional green helmet that has been used in recent seasons. The biggest change comes in the form of the official Adams State U-Paw decal that is prominently displayed on both. Under the Schutt brand, both styles incorporate a green facemask with "Grizz" written on the nose bumper. Adams State last wore white helmets during the 1970's before switching to green.

Both helmets not only incorporate a new style but an upgrade in student-athlete safety by switching to the Schutt Vengeance VTD II and Schutt AiR XP Pro VTD helmet models. Both models have been evaluated and given the highest rating possible (5-Stars) according to Virginia Tech helmet ratings.
