  • Helped lead the team, coached by his brother Gene, to NAIA National Title
  • Teammate of fellow Hall of Famer Chuck Jean
  • Served as Student Assistant Coach for 1973 National Championship Team and head coach Louie Long
  • 1973 ASC graduate in physical education
  • Went on to earn master’s degree in 1979 from Colorado State
  • Had transferred from Iowa State, where he was a national qualifier and 2-year varsity wrestler  
  • Also wrestled at Lamar Junior College
  • Member of two World Cup (1973 & 1975) Freestyle teams
  • Went on to coaching career at Air Academy High School
  • Then moved to University of Southern Colorado (CSU-Pueblo) in 1982 coaching six RMAC Championship Teams, 68 All-Americans and 11 National Champions before program was dropped after 2001 season
  • Now in fifth year as head coach New Mexico Highlands University
  • Wife of 35-plus years — Betty is a 1973 graduate
  • Couple has one son — Chad
