  • Adams State’s first-ever Cross Country All-American (1967)
  • Finished 7th at the NAIA National Championships that year
  • Went on to earn three other top-10 finishes to become first of just a handful of 4-time cross country all-Americans in Adams State’s illustrious history
  • Also won 1967 and 1970 individual RMAC titles
  • Earned all-America honors with a third place finish in the 5K at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships
  • Selected for U.S. National Team that competed all over Europe and at the 1972 Earned both B.A. (Elementary Education/History) and M.A. (Elementary Education) at Adams State in 1971 and 1975, respectively
  • Served as a General’s Aid in the Air Force from 1971-75, serving in Vietnam amongst other places
  • After a stint in the business world, he served as a teacher and librarian in Cripple Creek for 24 years
  • Also coached Cripple Creek’s teams, including his state championship son (Scott) and twin daughter (Shannon), who went on to collegiate athletic careers
  • Daughter Shelly also spent one year as a walk-on on Adams State’s Cross Country team
  • Now serves as Director of Southern Teller County Library, a combination public/school library in Cripple Creek
  • Earned master’s in library science through UC-Denver in 2007
  • Met wife of 42 years (Terri) at Adams State
