Nick Lara flat out dominated the indoor scene over three seasons, winning three individual titles in the 800 meters. This string of national championships started in 2006 before he went on to repeat in 2007 and 2008. His distance medley relay teams in 2006 and 2007 also claimed national titles.  In 2007 and 2008 Nick was named the RMAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and was named the USTFCCA National Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2007 as well. Over the course of his career he garnered 14 All-America honors and was a 12-time RMAC Champion. In 2009 he was named to the RMAC All-Centennial Team.

"I watched Nick's work ethic develop from the days of helping his family in their Soft Spoken restaurant and running in the Hershey's National meet.  I would have never imagined that same work ethic paired along with his mental toughness would lead him to win 7 National titles and to the ASU athletic Hall of Fame. I am extremely pleased that Nick set an example to San Luis Valley youth that they too can reach the highest levels of collegiate athletics, as he has done so." - Nick’s Head Coach Damon Martin

In 2010 Nick moved to serve as the Men’s and Women’s  Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Southern Connecticut University , where he was named the NCAA DII Track & Field Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the East   Region.

Nick and his wife Jessica currently live in Denver with their 2 children while Nick is completing his masters in Health Care Administration through the ASU MBA program.
