GOLDEN, Colo. (November 2, 2014) —The Adams State University Grizzlies men's soccer team lost in their season finale with the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers by a score of 7-0. With the loss, Adams State's record drops to 1-16, 0-14 in RMAC play. After beginning the season with a win over Eastern New Mexico University, the 2014 ASU campaign comes to a close on a 16-game losing streak.
The Orediggers were dominant in the match from the start. ASU goalkeeper
Caleb Baumgartner was under distress early and often and upon entering halftime was already subjected to 15 CSM shots. Mines scored three goals in the first half via shots from Richard Garvey, Jason Shelledy, and Preston Migaki, respectively. Baumgartner saved five shots in the first half, while surrendering three goals. On the offensive side, ASU was outshot by a 15-7 margin. The first half of regulation concluded with a 3-0 Mines lead.
In the second half, Mines added four more goals; bringing the game to a 7-0 final score. ASU took only two shots in the second half while Mines took 13. For the game the Grizzlies were outshot by a 28-9 margin.
Matt Anderson had three total shots while
Ethan Jackson had two shots on goal.
The program loses three seniors in
Matt Anderson, Erik Hendrickson, and
Andrew Hinkle but return a large group of underclassmen for next season. The University would like thank these three seniors for their countless efforts on the pitch and off. We wish them luck in their future endeavors.
