ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 1, 2015) – Sunday brought sunshine and a beautiful day for soccer when Adams State University welcomed Metropolitan State University of Denver to the ASU Soccer Field.
Adams State (2-12-2, 1-7-2 RMAC) ended their season on a low note losing 2-1 in their final game of the season to the Roadrunners (13-3-2, 8-2 RMAC). Tempers ran hot when frustration on the field turned into aggression as the Grizzlies received two warnings and Metro State received one as well.
The Grizzlies took advantage of home turf and struck first with
Ethan Jackson putting in his second of the season tying him for the team lead with
Symon Fabbricatore and J.J .Dennis. It was a lead ASU held on to for the rest of the first half. MSUD struck back 10 minutes into the second half, bringing the contest even with a penalty kick from Josh Belfrage that was good for his seventh of the season.
In the 85
th minute the Roadrunners sealed the match when MSUD's Jeff Gillis used his head to knock in a cross from Nolan Barth to edge the Grizzlies, 2-1. The win puts the Roadrunners as the second seed for the upcoming RMAC Tournament. The win also gives them home field advantage as they'll host fifth-seeded Fort Lewis College next week whom they edged 2-1 last Friday.
With two wins and two ties the Grizzlies finished ninth of eleven teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, ahead of Westminster College and Colorado Christian University. More experience and opportunities to build on for the 2016 season.
