ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 14, 2015) —The Adams State University Grizzlies softball team won their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) double header today against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers and the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets. In their first matchup played against Mines, Adams was victorious by a 9-6 score. In their second game against Black Hills State the Grizzlies won by a 7-3 score. With today's 2-0 sweep, the Grizzlies improve their overall record to 7-11 while notching a 5-7 record in RMAC play.
In the Grizzlies' matchup against Mines, the Orediggers struck first in the top of the first inning with a two-run homerun by Sonoma Toot. The Orediggers scored three for the inning but were held off the scoreboard by Adams until the seventh inning.
The Grizzlies clawed back with a stellar first inning of their own with five runs courtesy of hits from
Erika Ecsedy,
Tayler Else, and
Kelsi Kautz. In the third inning, the Grizzlies contributed another three runs; giving the Grizzlies a 9-3 lead.
Mines did add three runs in the top of the seventh inning which concluded the scoring for the game.
Kelsey Sellars (4-5) earned the victory for the Grizzlies.
In the matchup against Black Hills State, the Grizzlies used the momentum discovered in their first matchup of the day to power past the Yellow Jackets.
For a good majority of the game, the Grizzlies were in complete control, scoring the game's first seven runs in six innings of play. Four runs were scored in the second inning. In the fourth inning,
Erica Haugum brought in two runs and in the sixth inning Else injected another run onto the scoreboard for the Grizzlies.
The Yellow Jackets scored all three of their runs in the seventh inning from Cassie Smith, Kayla Halloc, and Nia Shumpart.
Kaycee Prevedal (3-2) earned the victory for the Grizzlies.
Adams State is back in action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
