ALAMOSA—Saturday was a day of solidification for the Adams State University softball team as they were able to stamp their passport to the 2015 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Tournament by winning at least one game on Saturday over the Colorado Christian University Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies opened up the day with a come-from-behind 5-4 walk-off win before falling 13-4 in six innings in the second game.
In the opening game, Adams State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a single to right field to score
Kalin Johnson. The low-scoring affair continued until the sixth inning where the Cougars scored four runs including capitalizing on two extra base hits.
With the Grizzlies down three runs entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Adams State scored two singles before
Gabrielle Griego struck out. The Grizzlies then loaded the bases with a single from Johnson. They then got on the merry-go-round as Dunlap singled to second base to score
Tayler Else before
Erika Ecsedy lined out to the short stop.
Erica Haugum then drew a four-pitch walk to score
Shaena Connelly.
Marissa Harmon then reached on a fielding error by the shortstop allowing Johnson to score before
April Riggins reached on a fielding error by the short stop where Dunlap scored the game winning run.
The two Cougar errors in the bottom of the seventh were the only two errors by Colorado Christian in the game as they scored their four runs on seven hits while Adams State played a flawless defensive game and tallied nine hits.
Kaycee Prevedel was the starting pitcher as she allowed all four runs on seven hits and three walks while he had six strikeouts in the game.
Morgan McWilliams earned the win by getting the final two outs.
Dunlap was the leading player in the game as she was 3-of-4 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored.
The second game was not a stellar game for the Grizzlies as the Cougars scored three runs in top of the first inning before the Grizzlies powered back on a 3-run jack from Harmon.
CCU then scored three runs in the top of the second inning on a 3-run home run of their own before Alex Moore scored the Grizzlies final run in the bottom of the second, an RBI double. The Cougars scored a single run in the top of the fifth inning before they scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the run rule win.
After Saturday's action that saw Metro State defeat Colorado Mesa, the Roadrunners secured the RMAC regular season title and they will be the host of the 2015 RMAC Tournament next week.
Sunday will be Senior Day for the Grizzlies as the 11 seniors will play their final home games with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
