PUEBLO, Colo. (April 30th, 2016)—The Adams State University Grizzlies men's lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season with a 7-4 victory over the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves earlier Saturday.
The ThunderWolves took an early 1-0 lead over Adams State, as they scored the first goal just twelve seconds into the game. CSU-P would hold the Grizzlies scoreless, as this was the lone goal of the opening stanza.
Reece Sullivan, assisted by
Taylor Wiggins, tied the game up 1-1 with his goal at the 10:32 mark of the second period. The ThunderWolves, would then net their second goal of the contest to give themselves another one-goal lead, with 6:13 showing before halftime.
However, with just twenty-three seconds on the clock,
Alex Brydson, assisted by
Drew Kerigan, would tie the game up yet again at 2-2 heading into the half.
A minute into the third period, Kerigan (unassisted) would find the back of CSU-P's net to give the Grizzlies their first lead of the contest, going up 3-2 over the ThunderWolves.
Sullivan would then net his second goal of the game to give Adams State a 4-2 lead with 6:10 left before the fourth period.
Kerigan would then give the Grizzlies a 5-2 lead, off of an assist by
Tanner Beck. Kerigan's goal came with twenty seconds left, but the ThunderWolves would net the last goal of the third to cut the deficit to 5-3 heading into the final period of play.
Morgan Osbourne then gave the Grizzlies their three-goal lead back with his goal at the 11:59 mark of the fourth period. Shortly after,
Collin Cranfield (assisted by
Nik Clinton), would give the Grizzlies their largest lead of the game at 7-3.
CSU-P would then attempt to battle back, but were only able to cut the deficit down to three goals again.
Connor Johnson continued on in his stellar season, by ending the day with 17 saves. The regular season has seen Johnson tally 177 saves, while averaging 11.56 saves a game. His regular season save percentage is at a .546. He led the conference saves per game.
"Gutty win by the boys tonight." Head Coach
Jason Levesque said after the victory, "We've been battling the injury bug and had the majority of the guys sick for much of this past week.Regardless, we can't use those things as excuses. I was pleased with the effort this afternoon and that we were able to find a way to get a road win."
With their win in Saturday's game, Adams State wraps up their regular season with a record of 4-9. The Grizzlies have clinched a spot in the Rocky Moutain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships, however seeding has yet to be determined.
