FB | Adams State Heads to Texas for Non-Conference Matchup

ALAMOSA – Adams State University's football team will head to Canyon, Texas, to take on West Texas A&M this Saturday at 5 p.m. The game will serve as the Buffs homecoming game, the second-straight road homecoming game for the Grizzlies.

Adams State is coming off of a tough defeat against CSU-Pueblo. The team will look to rebound, as they take on the only team to defeat Pueblo this season. West Texas came back from down 21-points against CSU-Pueblo in the second week of competition, with the Thunderwolves being ranked seventh in the nation at the time. The Buffs won the next game, but since then haven't seen victory.

The Grizzlies have not let up consecutive losses yet this season. After letting up a school record points against Chadron, Adams came back and dominated S.D. Mines in bad weather. The defense could not shut out the game, but the offense put it out of reach for the win and the defense slammed the door shut with a goal line stand.

Nick Rooney had a rough week last week, but still remains highly ranked in the nation in completions, touchdowns and yards per game throwing. He will look to get back on track against a West Texas defense that has allowed one of the highest opponent completion percentages in the nation.

Chad Hovasse has been 'shutdown' in three games, and by shutdown it means he didn't have eight catches for over a hundred yards and a touchdown. In the other three games this season, the junior has caught 24 balls for 411 yards and six touchdowns. He has not been kept out of the end zone in consecutive games this season.

The Grizzlies have been a part of two homecomings this season, both resulting in a loss and a long bus ride home. Adams State has let up more points in the two homecoming games this season (136) than it has in the other four games combined (131).

This will be the third homecoming of the season for Adams State, who will play in three homecoming games in a row. Following the road trip, Adams returns to host ranked Colorado Mesa for its own homecoming.
