Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX| No. 18 Colorado Mesa Proves Too Much For Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 31st, 2017) --- The Adams State men's lacrosse team (3-3, 2-2 RMAC) faced a tough challenge in No. 18 Colorado Mesa (9-2, 4-1 RMAC) this afternoon. Despite a high energy level and physical play, the Mavericks were too strong offensively and came out with a 15-4 win.

Mesa opened things up with a Steve Brandenburg goal off an assist from Jack Griffin. Freshman sensation Kale Wilson answered back about a minute later to tie the game at one. The Mavericks then went on a 6-0 run that lasted early into the second quarter. Collin Cranfield would end the run with an unassisted man-up goal with 12:42 remaining in the half. CMU would add one more to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.

Another 4-0 run in the third put the Mavericks up 12-2 heading into the final quarter. Just when it looked like all was lost, the Grizzlies came back with a surge of offense. Kale Wilson added his second goal of the game with 12:34 remaining. Thirty-five seconds later, Michael Vaeth would strike to make it a 12-4 game. Emmitt MacFarlane had the assist on both scores. Adams would not score again and Colorado Mesa would score three more to end the game.

Kale Wilson had two goals for ASU while Joe Quatrochi added seven ground balls. Mesa was led by Jack Griffin's four goals and two assists. Connor Johnson was attacked frequently in the goal but still recorded 20 saves. Adams State was much improved in their faceoff and ground ball efforts, outdoing the opposition 14-8 and 23-19 respectively.

Head coach Keith Lindgren had this to say about today's game, "Today was a true test on the program. We made strong strides at becoming better at gaining possession this week via the faceoff. This was accomplished by the hard work of the duo we have at the faceoff. Offense produced great scoring opportunities but were unable to get the ball to drop in the back of the net. We are excited and ready to go against Westminster on Sunday!"

The team rounds up the weekend this Sunday at home against Westminster at 12:00PM.
