SB| Grizzly bats go cold, drop two to Mavs

GRAND JUNCTION—The Adams State University Softball team was unable to get their bats going consistently in their doubleheader at No. 14 Colorado Mesa University on Sunday. They dropped their two games to the Mavericks, 7-4 and 9-0.

The first game was a more competitive game for the Grizzlies as they scored four runs in the later innings.

The runs came after Adams State was trailing 6-0. The Lead for Colorado Mesa came with small ball runs and two home runs.

The Grizzlies scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning as Kalin Johnson nailed a single to score Alexandria Quintana before Tyler Hays had a triple to center field to score Johnson.

After a homer in the bottom of the inning, Adams State scored two more in the sixth. The he two were extra base hits as April Riggins hit a solo homer to left field before Jasmine Pemble tripled to centerfield to score Haskins.

Adams State surrendered ten hits and one walk while Lauren Murphy was tabbed with her sixth loss of the season with four strikeouts in the game.

The second game started out rough for Adams State as seven runs crossed the plate for the Mavericks in the bottom of the first inning before two more runs scored in the bottom of the second.

The Grizzlies could not come back and they fell in five innings.

The Grizzlies fall to 4-14 overall and 3-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
