GOLDEN, Colo. (April 14, 2017) –
Erik Hildebrandt recorded a team-high three hits for Adams State University during a 16-3 loss to Colorado School of Mines on Friday night.
The Grizzlies (11-25, 5-17 RMAC) conclude the four-game series with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 12pm.
The Orediggers (18-17, 10-12 RMAC) scored in all but two innings and concluded the RMAC tilt with four home runs. A seven-run third inning gave Mines an 11-0 lead as Adams State sent their first runner across home plate in the fourth.
ASU's initial run was set up by a leadoff triple to right field from Hildebrandt.
Michael Downs brought his teammate in to score with a RBI single up the middle. The Grizzlies loaded the bases later in the frame but back-to-back outs ended ASU's threat.
Two more ASU runs came in the ninth beginning with a
Tony Stanich RBI double to score
Nick Hill. A Hildebrandt single, with a CSM error on the play, brought Stanich in to cap off ASU's scoring.
The potent Oredigger lineup made it a frustrating outing for starting pitcher
Daniel Brennan (1-6) who lasted 2.2 innings on the mound. Brennan was responsible for six runs off six hits while also recording a strikeout. Relievers
Ryan Ferguson and
Chance Ward spent time on the mound as
Bryce Rone finished the game with a scoreless eighth frame.
CSM's starter Jake Englehart (3-0) picked up the win in 7.0 innings of work with one run allowed off five hits.
