MLAX| Grizzlies Lose Season Finale To CSU-Pueblo, Still Advance To RMAC Tournament For A Second Straight Year

ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 29th, 2017) --- The Adams State men's lacrosse team had a wild afternoon to say the least. Not only did the team play its final regular season game in a windy snowstorm, they also learned their fate for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament next weekend. Though CSU-Pueblo won the afternoon 11-7, it is the Grizzlies who kept their season going.

Colorado State University Pueblo (6-6, 4-6 RMAC) came out hot in the first half. Adams State (5-7, 4-6 RMAC) would score first however, when Collin Cranfield hit a long range goal not too far away from midfield. The ThunderWolves proceeded to score the next four goals to take a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter. Morgan Osborne was able to answer less than a minute later to cut the lead to two. CSU-Pueblo went on another short 3-0 run to give them a large lead early in the third. Despite terrible weather and a five point deficit, the Grizzlies refused to give up. Kale Wilson, Nik Clinton, and Danny Krieble all scored on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 8-6 in favor of CSUP. That was as close at it would get as the ThunderWolves ended the game on a 3-1 run on their way to victory.

The result of the game gave both teams a 4-6 RMAC record with each team winning at the other's home field. The tie-breaker for the RMAC's final tournament resulted in a point differential from all games either team had played this season. When all the numbers were crunched, the Grizzlies had a point difference of -15 with the ThunderWolves having a -19 margin. The four point difference broke the tie in favor of Adams State and sends them back to a second straight RMAC tournament appearance.

Senior Grizzly, Alan Koenig had this to say about the team's accomplishment, "Right before coach told us about the tie-breaker, we were feeling concerned. But after we found out the news, we had a sigh of relief along with a new opportunity. All season we have been talking about opportunities and now we have to go take it. We've never beaten Mesa yet, but we want that first one bad, and we're going to go get it."

For the game, Danny Krieble led the way for Adams with two goals and a ground ball. Nick Matzek had five goals for the ThunderWolves. Adams State won the faceoff and ground ball battle 14-6 and 27-20 respectively. Both teams had 17 shots on goal.

The team will now face the same matchup they did a season ago in the RMAC tournament. The game against Colorado Mesa will take place on May 5th at 7:00PM in Grand Junction, Colorado.
