ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Baseball was back in action on Sunday as they played Dixie State University in the final game of the four game series to open RMAC action for the season.
The Trailblazers (14-4, 4-0 RMAC) got out to an early lead and the Grizzlies (3-15, 0-4 RMAC) were not able to put together enough offense to keep up. The Trailblazers scored a total of 28 runs as they finished the sweep of Adams State, 28-9.
The top of the first saw Dixie State put up five runs, with two home runs, one by Brody Clifford to start the game and then Tyson Fisher hit a three run homerun to left center to increase the lead to 5-0 in favor of Dixie State.
The Grizzlies got on the board in the bottom of the first inning off of a two run single by
Jared Gay against the shift to right center, bringing
Nico Nintze and
Erik Hildebrandt in to score.
The top of the second the Trailblazers scored four more runs off of two hits and poor defense as Brody Clifford stole home on a botched double steal.
Dixie State added one more to the board in the third as Jake Engal hit a double down the line in right to bring in the 10
th run of the game for Dixie State.
The fourth inning continued with the Trailblazers putting up eight more runs, with Brody Clifford hitting his second home run of the game, a three run shot to left field. Two doubles by Tyson Fisher and Bryce Feist brought in three more runs for Dixie State.
Adams State was able to respond in the bottom of the fourth as
Nico Nintze started the scoring with a RBI double to bring in
Josh Billingham,
Logan Bistrup followed up with a single to the shortstop to bring in the fourth run of the game for Adams State.
Jared Gay homered to center field the very next batter to bring in three more runs for the Grizzlies.
Patrick Huffaker wrapped up the scoring with a RBI single through the left side to bring in
Orlando Romero.
Dixie State scored nine more runs in the top of the fifth as Jake Brown hit an opposite field home run to left to lead off the inning. Joe Raymond and Tyler Hollow hit back to back doubles to score the next three runs and the Brody Clifford continued his huge day by hitting a grand slam to center field. Braxton Ipson followed that up with a solo home run two batters later.
Jared Gay continued his solid weekend in the bottom of the fifth as he singled through the right side to bring in Hildebrandt as the ninth run the Grizzlies scored.
The final run of the game came from the bat of Brody Clifford who hit another home run to left field to increase the score for Dixie State to 28-9.
On offense Adams State was led by
Jared Gay who had three hits, six RBI, and one run scored with a home run as well.
Erik Hildebrandt had three runs scored with two hits and
Nico Nintze,
Logan Bistrup, and
Patrick Huffaker all had an RBI.
On the mound
Dalton Carleo got the start and took the loss, moving to 0-3 on the year, he threw 2.0 innings with one strikeout.
Kolton Bleggi,
Jamison Fuentes, and
Colson Faircloth all threw two innings as well.
For the Trailblazers, Brody Clifford had a career day as he had four home runs, nine RBI, five hits and six runs scored. Tyson Fisher also had four RBI with two hits and three runs scored.
Preston Hannay got the start and the win for Dixie State moving to 2-1 on the season and throwing 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. Kaivon Kealoha threw two innings of no hit ball with one strikeout in relief.
Adams State is back in action next weekend as they travel up to take on Colorado Christian for a four game series with the first game on Friday, March 15. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
