ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Softball close out their second day of games against Black Hills State to split their four-game series. The Grizzlies are walking away with two wins and two losses putting them 5-19 overall and 5-7 in RMAC.
The Grizzlies fell to the Yellow Jackets 13-7 in game one of today's double header. The Grizzlies pull off the win in game two with a huge walk off double from catcher
Zoe Munn. Munn lead the Grizzlies offensively in the second game going 4-5, with seven RBI's.
The opening game was well fought on both sides. The Yellow Jackets opened the game with a couple of fly outs, then a huge double fired up the first inning. From the three following singles, Black Hills State put up three runs on five hits.
The Grizzlies responded in the bottom of the first, scoring from an error in center field, and a sacrifice fly by
Mercedes Salazar to score Angel Miccuilli cutting the early lead 3-1. The Grizzlies capitalized another error in the bottom of the second from third base to advance
Hannah Wirtjes and
Brittany Phillips, scoring
Sarah Hansen.
In the top of the third, the Yellow Jackets regained their lead 5-2, with a two-run homerun. The Grizzlies took a large leap in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to tie the game at five.

Sarah Hansen. Wirtjes then singled to right center to score Phillips, tying the game 5-5.
The Yellow Jackets did not respond until the sixth, where the game opened up. Black Hills State scored six runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. After three straight singles, Yellow Jackets scored their first run of the inning from a double to left center. Black Hills scored two more after an error in center field, extending their lead by three. The Yellow Jackets capitalized on two more errors by the Grizzlies and scored one more after a wild pitch. Black Hills State set their lead 11-5.
The Yellow Jackets added two more runs to the board after four hits, leading the Grizzlies 13-5. Adams State led the inning off with a walk, then took advantage of an error by the short stop to get two aboard. Wirtjes doubled to center field, scoring Shaffer, cutting the Yellow Jacket lead 13-6.
Baylie Fryar reached on another error by the short stop, to load the bases. Mucciulli singled down the line to score
Rachel Mobley, giving the Grizzlies the 13-7 final.
Black Hills State came out of top with 13 runs, 19 hits and six errors; with the Grizzlies having seven runs, eight hits and five errors. Wirtjes went 2-4 in the game with two RBI's. Phillips went 2-3, with a walk and one RBI.
The Grizzlies looked like they had the second game in the bag, scoring nine runs in their first two innings. Both teams liked to keep things interesting, scoring a total of 23 combined runs in game two.
Adams State's
Zoe Munn had a great offensive game, hitting a double to center, scoring
Samantha McDonald and Mucciulli in the first inning to put the Grizzlies up 2-0. With the bases loaded in the second inning, Munn hit a grand slam to give Adams State a 6-0 lead.
Phillips doubled to right center field, then was brought home on a single from Wirtjes. After a single from
Kenzie Lange, Fryar singled to right field, scoring Wirtjes and Lange. On five hits, the Grizzlies scored seven runs in the bottom of the second, putting them up 9-0.
Black Hills State got on the board in the top of the third scoring from a sac fly. They scored again in the top of the fourth, from a single down the left field line. The Grizzlies added two more tallies to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth from a two-run homerun by Lange.
Slowing chipping away at the score, Black Hills State added two more runs in the top of the fifth from throwing errors and a pair of singles. The Yellow Jackets added one more in the top of the sixth, cutting the Grizzly lead to 11-5.
The Yellow Jackets came to life in the top of the seventh, scoring six runs to tie the game at 11. Black Hills State opened the inning with a lead off triple, who was brought home on a single up the middle. After an error fielding error, the Yellow Jackets hit a three-run homerun to left center, to trail the Grizzlies by two. Black Hills State loaded the bases, then scored their tenth run on a sac fly. They finally tied it up at 11 with a single to left field.
The Grizzlies took charge in the bottom of the seventh, with Munn hitting a walk-off double to score McDonald, giving the Grizzlies the 12-11 victory. The Grizzlies scored their 12 runs on 12 hits, while Black Hills State scored 11 runs on 15 hits.
Munn went 4-5 on the game with seven RBI's and Lange went 2-4, with two RBI's. Phillips received the win for the game, putting her 2-5 with four strike outs on the game.
The Grizzlies will be back on the road next week, traveling to Chadron, Nebraska March 16 and 17. Adams State will take on Chadron State and Colorado School of Mines.
