Hawks Take Down Grizzlies in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Adams State Men's Lacrosse suffered a tough loss on the road Sunday afternoon as the team dropped a 26-8 contest to No. 14 Rockhurst. The loss puts the Grizzlies record at 1-3.

The Hawks (6-2) used a fast start on offense scoring 18 goals and held the Grizzlies to just two goals in the first 30 minutes of action to ultimately secure the home win. The Grizzlies did not score more than one goal in each of the first three periods before scoring three in the final frame.

Rockhurst jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first two minutes of action. Adams State answered early on when Kage Janes scored at the 12:10 mark of the period. His goal came off a quick pass from Jacob Austin cut Adams State's deficit to 2-1.

The Hawks responded to the Grizzlies goal and scored six unanswered goals to close out the first period to lead 8-1 going into the second. The Grizzlies ended their drought early in the second period when Tanner Beck scored the Grizzlies second goal on a pass from Kale Wilson.

The goal was short lived for Adams State as Rockhurst then held the visitors scoreless the rest of the first half and scored 10 straight goals to lead 18-2 at the break. Helping the home team was 45 shots in the first half while holding Adams State to just 10.

The Hawks pushed their 10-0 scoring run into a 16-0 scoring run as they scored six straight goals to start the third period before the Grizzlies scored their lone goal. Riley Morrison scored the third Grizzlies goal of the game with 5:04 to play to in the third period.

The Hawks added one more in goal toward the end of the third period and held a commanding 25-3 lead going into the fourth. They added their first of three goals early in the fourth to lead 26-3. The Grizzlies then scored two straight goals. 

Austin scored the first goal of the period on an assist from Emmitt MacFarlane. Grass Brennan scored goal No. 2 thanks to a pass from Janes. Rockhurst got the two goals back scoring two straight on Adams State. Johnny Rosas scored the final goal off a pass from Beck to bring the final score to 28-6.

Beck led the offense with two points on a goal and an assist. In net, Connor Johnson tallied nine saves as suffered the loss to move to 1-3.

Drake O'Neill, Kai Trujillo, and Collin Fischer each tallied four points to lead the Hawks. O'Neill and Trujillo each had three goals and an assist, respectively. Fischer scored two goals and tallied two assists. Alex Pfeil picked up the win with a save. Hayden Harris tallied the most saves with four in 15 minutes of action.

The Grizzlies will be back in action on Tuesday, March 19 at Lindenwood. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
