Grizzlies Take Down Acronauts for First Home Win

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Men's Lacrosse picked up its third win of the season Friday afternoon with a 13-7 home win over Notre Dame de Namur. The win puts the Grizzlies record at 3-4 on the year.
 
Helping the Grizzlies take down the Acronauts (1-8) was the combination of a fast start on offense along with the help of getting the offense in solid position early on with a 33-34 clear attempt setup. They also held a 34-23 shots advantage with a 22-12 mark in shots on goals.
 
A 4-0 lead early on the first period helped the Grizzlies hold a wire-to-wire lead and they led 9-1 going into the second half after outscoring the visitors 5-0 in the second frame.
 
Kale Wilson and Tanner Beck teamed up for the first goal. Beck found Wilson on a quick pass that helped him hit the back of the net for the 1-0 lead in the first 1:32 of play. Beck scored the second goal at the 10:54 mark to give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.
 
Johnny Rosas then got in on the scoring action has he scored and assisted on the next two goals, respectively. He gave Adams State a 3-0 advantage at the 9:10 mark on an assist from Riley Morrison. Beck scored his second goal with 8:03 on the clock from a pass from Rosas and the home team wa sin front, 4-0.
 
The Acronauts ended their scoring drought with a goal scored at the 6:30 point of the opening period but the Grizzlies responded to stay up four. Beck and Wilson once again paired up as beck found the back of the net on a quick dump pass from Wilson.
 
Leading 5-1, Adams State continued its offensive aggression with four more goals in the second period to lead by eight at the break. Emmitt MacFarlane scored in the first 17 seconds of the second period on an assist from Morrison to make it a 6-1 game.
 
Kyle Butler increased the lead to 7-1 with just under 10 minutes to play in the half on a pass from Ryan Young. Goal number four of the period came on the merit of JD Van Arsdall who blew by his defender to score.
 
Wilson added the final goal of the half on a long clearing pass from goalie Brendan Williams to score with five seconds left to play. The quick thinking from Williams helped Wilson score the quick goal and make it a 9-1 advantage for the Grizzlies.
 
The Acronauts looked to make things interesting in the second half as they scored six goals but four from the Grizzlies helped them hold off any chances of comeback.
 
Defensive play picked up in the third period with the two squads scoring just a combined three goals. The Acronauts scored two at the 10:45 mark and 5:55 mark of the frame, respectively, to cut the Grizzlies lead to six, 9-3.
 
The lone third period goal for Adams State did not come until there was 1:58 left to play in the frame. Beck found the back of the net to end a near shutout in the third and push the home team's lead back to seven, 10-3.
 
The scoring picked back up in the fourth with the Acronauts scoring four and the Grizzlies scoring three. The visitors scored in the first 29 seconds of the frame to cut their deficit back to six at 10-4. Beck once again answered for the Grizzlies with his fifth goal of the game on an assist from Wilson to make it 11-4.
 
Notre Dame added goal No. 5 at the 9:26 mark to stay within striking distance but it did not last as the Grizzlies scored back-to-back goals in the final six minutes of play. Beck scored his final goal on a pass from Kage Janes to make it 12-5.
 
Brennan Grass scored the final Grizzlies goal with 4:35 on the clock to make it a 12-5 edge. The Acronauts scored two more times but in too late of time as the Grizzlies held on for the 13-7 home win.
 
Beck a solid outing on offense to lead the Grizzlies with six goals and one assist for a game high seven points. Wilson put up four points on a pair of goals and assists. MacFarlane added three points on a goal and two assists. Rosas (1g, 1a) and Morrison (2a) each finished with two points. Williams got win in net for the Grizzlies. He notched five saves in 58 minutes of action.
 
Ethan Gilbert led the Notre Dame offense with four point on three goals and an assist. Three other players finished with two points to round out the offense. Goalkeeper Garrett Netter suffered the loss despite a game-high nine saves.
 
The Grizzlies will have some time off before returning to the field. They will head to Salt Lake City, Utah on April 12 to take on the Westminster College Griffins.
