Grizzlies Swept by Mavericks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Adams State Grizzlies and Colorado Mesa Mavericks went back to work today in the final game of the series. Adams State (7-31, 4-20 RMAC) looked to steal the last game of the series and Colorado Mesa (31-7, 19-5 RMAC) looked to complete the series sweep.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, Adams State got two baserunners on in the first but a double play kept the Grizzlies off the board. Colorado Mesa went three up three down in the first inning.

The second inning Orlando Romero came to the plate for Adams State, and crushed an opposite field home run to right field for the first run of the game and gave Adams State the lead.

Colorado Mesa responded quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second, Tanner Garner had a RBI single through the right side, Matt Turner followed that up with a RBI single up the middle as well. Will Dixon brought home the next two runs with another single up the middle. The fifth run of the inning was a steal of home by Will Dixon and a solid lead for the Mavericks.

The weekend power continued for Adams State with Nico Nintze homering to right field with two outs to cut the lead to three.

Spencer Bramwell homered in the bottom of the third inning to left center and Josh Shapiro singled to center bringing run number seven across for Colorado Mesa.

Adams State scored again in the top of the fifth inning, courtesy of Nico Nintze tripling down the right field line scoring Billy Ryan. The Grizzlies were not able to bring Nintze home though as the next batter struck out.
