Mountain Lions Sweep Grizzlies

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Grizzlies closed their final two games in Colorado Springs against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The Mountain Lions took the final two games to close the four-game series.
 
The Grizzlies fell 12-3 in game one and 21-4 in game two, both games lasting five innings.
 
In game one, the Grizzlies opened up the first with a lead of single to center field from Angel Micciulli. She was advanced to second on a wild pitch. The Grizzlies did not find a way to bring Micciulli home.
 
The Mountain Lions had a great start in the bottom half of the first, with five runs. With a leadoff single, UCCS was able to advance their runner to second on a fielder's choice. A single to center field with the bases loaded scored two for the Mountain Lions. UCCS had runners on the corners where they hit their first home run of the game to left field, tallying three more. The Mountain Lions led the Grizzlies 5-0 in at the bottom of the first.
 
Brittany Phillips answered in the top of the second hitting a leadoff home run to right center. This put the Grizzlies on the board trailing by four.
 
UCCS added one more run in the bottom of the second. With two runners on, a single to right center field scored one Mountain Lion. UCCS added two more runs in the bottom of the third. With a runner on second, the Mountain Lions doubled to right center to score one. The next batter up doubled to left center to bring home one more. The Mountain Lions led the Grizzlies 8-1 going in to the fourth inning.
 
At the top of the fourth, Shelby Haskins reached first base by getting hit by a pitch. Kyrah Archibald came in to pinch run for Haskins, and was brought in by another Phillips homerun. The Grizzlies only trailed 8-3.
 
The Mountain Lions tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one runner aboard, UCCS hit a two-run homerun to center field. Now leading by seven, the Mountain Lions reached on a fielding error and was advanced to third by a single to left field. The following single to right field scored two, putting the Mountains Lions up 12-3.
 
The Grizzlies did not add any more on in the top of the fifth, to conclude the game 12-3. The Grizzlies scored their three runs on four hits, with the Mountain Lions scoring 12 runs on 14 hits. Phillips led the Grizzlies at the plate 2-2, with all three RBI and two homeruns.

 
The Mountain Lions started out game two very strong, scoring ten runs in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, UCCS singled down the right field line to score one. After walking one run in, the Mountain Lions hit a grand-slam to lead Adams State 6-0. UCCS loaded the bases again, and walked in their seventh run. Following the walk, the Mountain Lions doubled to left field to score two more. After a single to center field, UCCS scored their tenth run.
 
In the bottom of the second, after a walk, three consecutive singles, and a double to left field the Mountain Lions tallied two more runs to the scoreboard. The Mountain Lions followed by hitting a three-run homerun to left field, leading the Grizzlies 15-0.
 
The Grizzly bats woke up in the top of the third scoring two. Rachel Mobley singled to left field to get on base, Micciulli brought her home on a two-run homerun to right center. The Grizzlies trailed by 13 moving in to the bottom of the third.
 
Adding two more runs, the Mountain Lions led the inning off with two consecutive walks. After a fielder's choice, the runners advanced to first and third. UCCS added their 16th run with an RBI ground out, and their 17th run with an RBI single.
 
Adams State added their third run to the board by a solo homerun from Baylie Fryar.
 
Moving to the bottom of the fourth, UCCS put up four more runs. With a leadoff single, the Mountain Lions doubled to center to score one. The runner at second advanced to third on a pass ball, and scored from a single down the left field line. The Mountain Lions added their 21st run after two more singles.
 
Adams State kept their spirits, adding one more run in the top of the fifth. Sarah Rocha led the inning off with a single to left field. After stealing second, Julia Jimenez singled to right center to drive in Rocha.
 
The Mountain Lions closed the games scoring 21 runs on 19 hits, with the Grizzlies scoring four runs on six hits. Micciulli and Fryar led the Grizzlies both hitting homeruns.
 
The Grizzlies finish up the season 12-37 overall, and 12-25 in RMAC.
