Denver – Adams State and Regis battled in the last game of the series today and for the Grizzlies the last road game of the year.
Adams State (8-38, 5-27 RMAC) searched to try and win the last game of the series and Regis (17-28, 12-20 RMAC) went for the series sweep.
Erik Hildebrandt started the game with a triple and scored on a
Logan Bistrup groundout to third, giving the Grizzlies the early lead.
Regis answered back in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs including a grand slam to right field by Kennedy Phillips. A Connor Rochon solo home run and a wild pitch scored the other two runs.
A double to left field in the second inning scored the seventh run of the game for the Rangers.
With the game getting close to out of reach Adams State got themselves back in it with a double through the left side by
Nico Nintze scoring Bistrup.
Jared Gay followed that up with a home run to right field scoring two runs and cutting the Ranger lead to three runs.
Another Kennedy Phillips home run to left center was the highlight of the bottom of the third for the Rangers.
Regis scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, two doubles, four singles, and a home run by Connor Rochon was all the offense needed to score the nine runs.
The bottom of the fifth the Rangers scored six more runs, a double to right center, a fielding error, a home run by Mickey Meinhofer and a bases loaded walk is what did the damage in the fifth inning.
Regis scored one last time in the bottom of the sixth with a double to left center bringing home run number 24 for Regis in the game.
Regis didn't score again after that but neither did Adams State as they fell by a final score of 24-4 in favor of the Rangers.
Jared Gay had one hit and two RBI for Adams State, his one hit being a home run,
Logan Bistrup and
Nico Nintze drove in the other two runs and
Erik Hildebrandt had two hits for the Grizzlies.
David Maldonado started the game and went 3.0 innings with two strikeouts and only one walk,
Connor Flynn had four strikeouts in just two innings of work.
Both Connor Rochon and Kennedy Phillips had six RBI for the Rangers, Phillips with three hits and Rochon with four. Mickey Meinhofer also had four hits and three RBI.
Colin King started the game and pitched 5.0 innings with eight strikeouts and only walked one batter.
Adams State will be home next weekend for the last series of the year against New Mexico Highlands University. First pitch will be Thursday, May 2
