Grizzlies Travel North in Search of Their Second Straight Win

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies Football team looks for their second win in consecutive weeks as they travel to Black Hills State for their third contest of the season. Coming off of a Week Two victory over the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys, The Grizzlies are up against a winless Black Hills squad that is trying to rebound from a 52-7 thrashing last weekend against Colorado Mines in Golden, CO.

For the Grizzly offense, last weekend seemed to be a coming out party for the receiving corps as well as the running back rotation. Star receiver Tariq Bitson, coming off of a 173 yard, one touchdown performance against Mines in Week One, bested that day with a 200-yard, two touchdown day against Highlands last Saturday. Look for him to continue to get open and register big plays for the offense this weekend and moving forward.

Quarterback John Buksa found his rhythm last Saturday with a four touchdown performance against Highlands. Key tight end Ian Fryday hauled in two of those touchdowns, proving to be a reliable red zone target the rest of the way. Receiver Ziere Banner has been a multi-faceted weapon this season, catching a touchdown pass last week as well as numerous other spark plays.

The running backs will look to cash in a big day Saturday against Black Hills, who has surrendered quite a bit on the ground through two games. The three-headed monster of Duson Sproles, Jamarcus Federick and Otumus Payemanu should see plenty of action running the ball downhill against the Yellow Jacket defense.

For the Grizzlies on defense, they return key defensive end Alani Putuau to their pass rush, who was out injured last weekend. He hopes to wreak havoc on the Black Hills passing game Saturday coming off the edge. The Grizzly defensive line was incredibly stout last weekend, as Rob Luckett and Alu Taito have done an admirable job preventing big plays up the middle and stuffing holes for opposing running backs thus far.

The secondary and linebacking corps are two groups that hope to pick up a ton of confidence this Saturday in Spearfish. The secondary was exposed a couple of times last weekend in garbage time with the Grizzlies up big, but were not satisfied with lackluster. Look for Deon Mayes and Corey Sinceno to lock down their sides of the field this weekend against the Yellow Jacket receivers. As for the linebackers, Kyle Corder at the rover position has been a tremendous playmaker, playing sideline to sideline and hovering around unblocked at times to cause big losses for opposing offenses in the backfield.

The Grizzlies kick off their game against Black Hills State this Saturday, 1 P.M. MST from Spearfish, SD. Visiting broadcast and live stats can be found on the opposing website at BHSUAthletics.com.
