ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies played Fort Lewis College on Wednesday. The Grizzlies almost took it into overtime, but a late own goal by the Grizzlies let Fort Lewis walk away with the 2-1 victory.
The first half began, and both the Grizzlies and the Skyhawks came to play. They went back and forth for half the first half. It wasn't until the 26th minute when a team found the back of the net. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, the Skyhawks were the team that scored, as Tomas Gonzalez, with the assist from Maxilian Meier scored. This would make the game 1-0, and the score would remain like that for the rest of the half.
The score would appear to remain like that for the rest of the game. The Grizzlies came out hard in the second half but couldn't score. It wasn't until the Skyhawks fouled one of the Grizzlies in the box. Eduardo Cardenas would take and score the penalty kick, tying up the game at one.
As the clock was wounding down, the game became more and more intense. Both teams were fighting to score and hopefully seal the win. In the 83rd minute, the Adams State Grizzlies scored an own goal, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Skyhawks. The Grizzlies applied pressure but were not able to score in the last few minutes.
Up next, the Grizzlies will have their senior night on Friday, October 22nd, against Metropolitan State University of Denver at 3:00 p.m. The game will be the last home game of the season for the Grizzlies.
