ALAMOSA, Colo. – This weekend is the start of a three road games for the Grizzlies. Up first, they will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to play Westminster College on Friday, October 8th, at 7:00 p.m. Then they travel to Grand Junction, Colorado to play Colorado Mesa University on Sunday, October 10th at 12:00 p.m.
Westminster College will be the Grizzlies first opponent this week. The Griffins have a current overall record of 4-6-0 and an RMAC record of 1-1-0. Westminster is currently going off of a loss to Colorado State Pueblo, 2-0. In the last matchup with the Grizzlies, the Grizzlies lost 2-0 to Westminster. Luke Merrill is leading the team with goals as he has two goals this season. The Grizzlies are still searching for their first conference win, so this will be an excellent matchup between the two teams.
After Westminster, the Grizzlies come back to Colorado to play Colorado Mesa University. Colorado Mesa is currently 8-2-0 overall and then have a conference record of 2-0-0. The Mavericks don't have a loss in conference yet, but the Grizzlies will be more than happy to give them their first one. The Mavericks are coming off of a two-game win streak. They beat No. 19 Colorado State Pueblo 1-0 and then the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, 3-1. Colorado Mesa's goalkeeper, Connor Durant received his second Goalkeeper of the Week honors as he bagged nine saves over the weekend. This is another challenge ahead for the Grizzlies but they are more than prepared for it.
"An important weekend for us, considering the changes to conference play and the challenges we have faced, this weekend will be important for us to get positive results," Head Coach Brett Bentley said. "We have been very good this year, but we have been lacking consistency, this weekend we expect the complete picture to come together."
Up next, the Grizzlies are still on the road as they play University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Thursday, October 14th at 7:00 p.m.
