ALAMOSA, Colo.— The Adams State University Grizzlies were able to pick up their second win of the season on Saturday as they won the opening game 11-5 before falling in the second game 8-6 to the Regis Rangers.
Adams State is now 2-7 on the season and 1-4 in the RMAC while Regis improved to 13-2 overall and 9-2 in the RMAC.
Game 1: Adams State 11, Regis 5
Adams State opened Saturday's doubleheader with three runs in the bottom of the first inning as
Mike Bathauer singled to left field to score
Cedrick Reynaud.
Orlando Romero then singled through the left side to score Mike and
Matt Bathauer.
After a solo home run in the top of the second, neither team scored until the fourth inning where the Grizzlies put up six runs. After a Romero double,
Nathan Hield hit a two-run double before Reynaud cleared the bases with a three-run jack to center.
The Grizzlies saw the Rangers pull within five but stellar pitching closed out the game.
Alfredo Villa earned his second win of the game as he pitched 5.1 innings surrendering five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Game 2: Regis 8, Adams State 6
The second game saw the Grizzlies jump out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as
Orlando Romero took the sixth pitch and drove it over the left field wall for a home run.
The Rangers came back and scored a single run in the top of the third and top of the fourth to tie the game at two.
The Grizzlies didn't stay stagnant long, however, as the Grizzlies nailed three solo home runs, one by
Mike Bathauer,
Jace Wytulka and Romero to give Adams State a 5-2 lead entering the fifth inning.
Despite that the Rangers took a three-run lead as they had a two-run shot in the top of the fifth and four runs in the top of the sixth. Adams State saw Wytulka score a run on his second bomb of the day to cut the lead to 8-6 going to the seventh.
After keeping the game scoreless in the top half of the inning, Adams State made things interested as they loaded the bases, however, a deep fly ball to left field was tracked down to end the game.
The Grizzlies outhit the Rangers 13-8 including five home runs.
Dominic Lomeli was tabbed with the loss as he three a third of an inning and allowed three runs.
Jamison Fuentes was the starter and had five solid innings where he fired 82 pitches surrendering five runs on five hits and three walks. He had six strikeouts. He is 0-1 on the season.
