COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Playing in their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Quarterfinal game in 14 years, the Adams State University women's soccer team battled and ultimately fell 6-1 on Tuesday night here at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Doing what no other lower seeded team could do in the conference and scoring a goal against the higher-seeded team, the No. 4 seeded team in the Mountain Division, Adams State, had five shots in the contest while No. 8 ranked and No. 1 seeded team in the Rocky Division, UCCS, took 26 shots in the contest.
The game Mountain Lions started the game as Kaitlin Hinkle shot a low line drive to the lower right end of the net past a diving
Ashley Beers in the ninth minute.
In the 28th, minute, Tory Maydew scored a goal on a rebound to the lower left of the goal to make the score 2-0.
Adams State broke through on a beautiful breakaway pass from
Sydney Wiedeman, who found
Carena Harrison in the clear for the goal in the 41st minute. The excitement did not last long, however, as just 35 seconds later, they scored an own goal and trailed 3-1 at the break.
Hinkle scored her second goal of the game in the 49th minute to push UCCS up 4-1. Katie Puchino then scored in the 74th minute and Maydew scored in the 80th minute to close out the scoring.
In the game Beers made eight saves.
Adams State concludes the season 2-5 overall.
