GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Despite getting the first goal of the game, the Adams State University men's lacrosse team was unable to over come the No. 1 seeded and No. 18 ranked Colorado Mesa University Mavericks in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament semifinal on Friday at Maverick Field.
The No. 4 seeded Grizzlies, finish their 2021 campaign with an 0-8 record.Â
The Grizzlies looked like they would come up with a big game as
Kyle Coking scored his third goal of the season, unassisted, just two minutes into the game. The Mavericks had other thoughts as they scored four goals before
Chase Rodine scored on a pass from
Kyle Butler to make the score 4-2. CMU then scored two goals in the final forty seconds to take a 6-1 lead after one period.
The Mavericks pushed the pace and scored seven goals to open the second quarter to offset a
Dawson Balabanoff goal in the final two minutes to take a 14-3 lead into the halftime break.
Butler scored his second goal of the season thirty seconds into the second half as the Grizzlies were up a man, however, six Maverick goals later and CMU led 20-4 going into the final quarter.
Tyler Hubbard scored the Grizzlies final goal of the game early in the fourth.
Adams State was outshot 66-24 with the Mavericks putting 39 of those shots on goal.
