ALAMOSA, Colo.—A first half goal by freshman
Colette Tena was all the Adams State University Grizzlies needed on Wednesday night as she helped lift the seven seniors to one last win here at the ASU Soccer Field over NMHU.
Despite two first-half breakaways that saw a shot off the right post and a shot that just sizzled wide left, the Grizzlies did not stomp on the brakes as they finally found paydirt in the 26th minute as
Karlee Caballero found Tena for the score.
The seconds half saw the Grizzlies have two more opportunities on a corner kick as two headers were just off target, one hitting the cross bar and the ensuing bounce found the post.
The Grizzlies were able to confuse the Cowgirls in the 74 th minute as the ball bounced near the penalty box and went off the foot of
Emily Chamberlain to
Aly Miles, both earning their first assists of the season. Miles read the play and found
Carena Harrison wide open for an easy goal, her second of the year.
Adams State then scored on a nice bounce pass from
Justine Cardwell, who earned her first assist of the season. The bounce than went straight to
Sydney Wiedeman, who found the net for her first goal of the year.
The Grizzlies, who honored
Niamiah Cervantes,
Carena Harrison,
Kylee Friedland,
Justine Cardwell,
Sydney Wiedeman,
Jordyn Maes and
Madison Hagerty before the game, finish the season with a 4-11-1 overall record and a 3-5-1 conference record.
