GUNNISON, Colo.— 42 straight points by the host Mountaineers put a damper on the Adams State University football team during the 75th Colorado Classic at Katy O. Raty Field. The Grizzlies fell to Western Colorado 52-10.
The game started with the two teams trading touchdowns in the first quarter. The Grizzlies got their first points when
Shammah Luani scampered to the end zone for a three-yard score to make the score 7-7 after the first frame.
The second quarter saw both teams use what the field was made for, kicking, as both teams had field goals to make the score 10-10 with 10:35 remaining. Kenneth Ayers hit a 43-yard field goal. Western Colorado added a touchdown with 2:43 to take a 17-10 halftime lead.
The second half saw the Grizzlies come out flat offensively with the Mountaineers scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter and three in the fourth quarter while shutting out the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies closed out the season with a 2-8 overall record.
