BASE | Grizzlies fall to Wayland

PLAINVIEW, Texas -Adams State dropped the front-end of a Friday doubleheader to Wayland Baptist 9-3 as part of a spring baseball weekend in Texas. Joseph Raker led the Grizzlies with two hits while Zachary Dawson stroked the only extra base hit (double) for Adams State.

In the nightcap, Mike Bathauer fell a triple short for hitting the cycle going 3-4 from the plate with five RBIs (including a double and his first home run of the season) leading Adams State to an 8-2 win. Matt Bathauer also hit his first home run of the season going 2-3. Pitcher Cesar Loma picked up his first victory this spring throwing a complete game while recording six strikeouts.

The Grizzlies dropped the first game of a Saturday doubleheader 3-2 to Wayland Baptist, giving up two late runs in the sixth inning. Mike Bathauer and Jack Dere picked up a hit each in the loss with Dere collecting both RBIs for Adams State. Pitchers Connor Murray, CJ Pino, and Kamden Kautz combined on a three-hitter in the loss.

After falling down 1-0 after the first inning, the Grizzlies scored four runs including two runs on two singles before allowing Wayland Baptist to score seven unasnwered.

Adams State, now 4-8 overall, will travel next weekend to the Tucson Invitation with games starting Friday against Concordia (MN) University. The Grizzlies will also face Malone (OH) University, Morningside (IA) University, Southwest Minnesota State, and the University of Jamestown (ND) while in Tucson.
