ALAMOSA, Colo.— There were opportunities a plenty for both the Adams State University Grizzlies and Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds in Thursday afternoon's season-opening women's soccer match. Despite seven shots on goal between the two teams, neither team found the back of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Neither team was able to take control in the first half as the Grizzlies outshot the Greyhounds, 5-3, including a 3-2 advantage on shots on goal.
Although the Grizzlies couldn't score, as the game went on so did the intensity. Not only did it pick up in the fact that in the 87 degree temperatures that blazed the black-uniformed Grizzlies on the already warm turf was draining, but the physical play by both teams was evident; although there were no cards marked.
The Grizzlies, who saw
Ashlyn Bartley step up with three massive saves in 90 minutes of play.
Adams State will have a couple of games to regroup before they take the field on Monday, Sept. 4th when they play Fort Lewis College in a non-conference game at 2:00 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Field.
