ALAMOSA, Colo.-- Defense was almost as hot as the San Luis Valley sunshine that saw two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams battle to a 1-0 final score with the No. 5 Colorado Mesa University Mavericks escaping the Adams State University Grizzlies on Sunday.
"What a battle today, we may have lost, but it was a fun entertaining game," said Head Coach Alex Greco. "As we continue to believe and have each others back. We can compete with anyone in the country. Hopefully this is just the start. Our coaching staff couldn't be more happy with our players from top to bottom. We can only congratulate Mesa. They are a very good team with a ton of depth and great coaches."
The match started with both teams in an impasse with the Grizzlies attempting two shots and the Mavericks attempting six shots in the first half but closed the first half in a tie 0-0.
ASU began the second half of the match displaying a testament of determination as the Grizzlies maintained proper positioning to defend their goal. The Mavericks came close to scoring in the 48
th minute but with
Ashlyn Bartley's excellent reflexes, she had the ability to make a crucial save.

 The Grizzlies displayed synchronized teamwork with their unwavering efforts playing defense, but the Mavericks managed to make a goal on the low right corner slipping through to make a goal.

ASU continued to play a strong defense as they anticipated the Mavericks actions and adapted quickly to their plays. Despite the Grizzlies' collective strategies to try and make their way to the goal, the second half ended in defeat as the Mavericks won 1-0.

Ashlyn Bartley made eight saves out of the nine shots the Mavericks attempted to make towards the goal.
