Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State University's swim teams had a busy two weekends, competing in the 2024 Dan France Continental Divide Cup and a tri-meet against UTPB and McMurry University.
Dan France Continental Divide Cup
At the Dan France Continental Divide Cup, the Adams State men's team had a strong showing. The men's 400-yard medley relay team claimed first place with a time of 3:44.48, while their 200-yard freestyle relay team dominated, finishing first at 1:29.79.
In individual events, notable performances included Brayden Stalcup, who won the men's 50-yard freestyle in 22.78 seconds; Ben Brewer, who took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.92 seconds; and Mohamed Abujiba, who won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.90 and the 100-yard IM in 56.39. Dillon Brown placed second in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 24.63.
On the women's side, the team continued to improve, with Jocelyn Jones placing third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.66. Emily Markle contributed with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Ryley Martinez and Jocelyn Jones had strong swims in the 50-yard backstroke, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Martinez also placed ninth in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 29.60. Kennedy Larson competed in the 1,650-yard freestyle, securing sixth place with a time of 21:39.52.
The women's 400-yard medley relay team finished fifth with a time of 4:39.21, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team placed fourth at 1:47.60. Adams' B relay team finished sixth in both events. The women's team finished third overall.
McMurry Tri-Meet
The Grizzlies also made waves at the tri-meet, where they faced McMurry University and UTPB.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team took second place with a time of 1:39.28. Kennedy Larson won the women's 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:07.39. In the women's 50-yard freestyle, Ryley Martinez secured first place, touching in at 26.52 seconds, followed by teammate Jocelyn Jones. Landon Brewer placed second in the men's 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:49.54. The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team—composed of Ryley Martinez, Lena Brown, Anjali Friedman, and Jocelyn Jones—claimed first place with a time of 3:53.95.
The men lost to UTPB 226-64 and defeated McMurry 142-117. The women lost to UTPB 134-113 and defeated McMurry 133-90.
Grizzly swimming will take a week off before the women's team competes at Western Colorado in a quad meet on Oct. 18.
