ALAMOSA, Colo. – A rare Tuesday afternoon doubleheader saw the Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU) take two games from the Adams State University softball team in non-conference action.
Game 1: NWOSU 7, ASU 3
Adams State found themselves down 2-0 after the first inning as two timely hits got the runs across for the Rangers. Adams State then came back with a single run in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.
The pitching and great defense for the Grizzlies could only hold on for so long as they surrendered single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth before two critical errors allowed three runs in the top of the ninth.
Adams State earned their three runs on nine hits while getting help from two defensive errors.
GAME 2: NWOSU 7, ASU 5
Adams State drew first blood as they scored in the bottom of the first inning as they had two hits and a walk.
The Rangers loaded the bases and capitalized on a Grizzly throwing error as two unearned runs crossed the plate to make the score 2-1. The Grizzlies scratched across a run in the bottom of the third before pinch hitter
Belinda Vargas nailed a two run home tun to give the Grizzlies a lead.
The Rangers rebounded and closed out the game as they scored five runs in the sixth.
