Hays, Kansas—The Adams State baseball team took on Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas, losing both games. The Tigers won the first game 11-7, and the second game 10-2. Being the Grizzlies' first game of the year, this drops them to 0-2 on the year.
Fort Hays State 11, Adams State 7
Fort Hays kicked off the scoring in the first inning with an Elliot Herrmann 2-run homerun. Herrmann carried the Tigers, hitting another homerun and a double, accounting for 6 of the 11 runs Fort Hays scored. Fort Hays was also helped by a strong performance on the mound by Ty Riley who threw four scoreless innings, recording 8 strikeouts along the way.
Although Fort Hays took the win, the Grizzlies showed great fight battling back by scoring 7 runs in the seventh innings to make it a 4-run game. The Grizzlies 7 run inning was started and capped off by
Josh Parks who hit two doubles and recorded 3 rbi's in the inning.
Luke Mariscal also helped the Grizzlies fight back into the game by coming off of the bench and hitting a 3-run homerun to left field.
The Grizzlies finished the game with 9 total hits and 14 baserunners only recording 1 less hit and the same amount of baserunners as the Tigers. The Grizzlies' kryptonite was the runners they left on base. The Grizzlies left 8 runners on base to Fort Hays's 3.

The Grizzlies carried some of their hot hitting into the second game scoring first on a 2-run
Christian Altamirano triple. Unfortunately, this was the end of Adams State scoring with the Grizzlies only recording 2 more hits the rest of the game. Both hits were recorded by
Nolan Marthaler who ended up having a good day at the plate going 2-3 with a walk.
Connor Murray led the Grizzlies in game two with a strong start tossing 6 innings, giving up 3 earned runs, and collecting 5 strikeouts on the mound. Murray threw 5 ⅔ shutout innings before giving up a 3-run bomb to Elliot Herrmann, his third on the day.
After the homerun in the sixth inning, the Tigers added one more run in the sixth and continued in the seventh by adding 6 more runs giving them a 10-2 lead. Luis Ayala accounted for 3 of the rbi's late in the game coming up with two clutch base hits to help the Tigers seal the game.

The Grizzlies will look to bounce back tomorrow as they gear up for another doubleheader against Fort Hays State. This will close out the series for Adams State against the Tigers and determine whether the Grizzlies will be able to split the series with the Tigers. The first game kicks off at 11:00 AM MST tomorrow at Larks Park in Hays, Kansas.
