Grizzlies Grab First Win of Season, Drop Game to Eastern New Mexico

Los Lunas, N.M. – The Adams State Grizzlies secured their first win of the season, defeating Sul Ross State 4-2 before falling to Eastern New Mexico 15-1 in their fourth game of the weekend.

Game 1: Adams State 4, Sul Ross State 2

The Grizzlies came out strong, retiring the first three batters and stranding a runner on base in the second while maintaining their defensive dominance. Though Adams State struggled to bring runners home early, they managed three hits and capitalized on an error in the opening innings.

Momentum shifted in the bottom of the third when Makenzie Simon launched a solo home run, giving ASU a 1-0 lead.

Sul Ross answered in the fifth, tying the game after Kaitlynn Frakes singled up the middle and Jasmine Garcia took advantage of a defensive miscue to even the score.

The Grizzlies wasted no time responding. In the bottom half of the inning, Simon came through again, crushing a two-RBI triple to center field. Pinch hitter Aubree Davis added to the lead with a well-placed RBI groundout, pushing ASU ahead 4-1.

Sul Ross managed to tack on one more run in the top of the seventh on a passed ball, but the Grizzlies' lead proved too much to overcome as they secured their first win of the season.

Game 2: Eastern New Mexico 15, Adams State 1

The Adams State Grizzlies struggled to find their rhythm in their second game of the day, falling to Eastern New Mexico 15-1.

Eastern New Mexico came out swinging, plating seven runs in the first inning to take immediate control. The Grizzlies tried to respond but couldn't capitalize on early baserunners.

Adams State's lone run came in the bottom of the first when Makenzie Simon scored on after Nevaeh Garcia was hit by a pitch and delivered an RBI to put the Grizzlies on the board.

However, Eastern New Mexico continued to apply pressure, erupting for another seven-run inning in the fourth, extending their lead to an insurmountable margin.

The Grizzlies will look to bounce back in their next matchup tomorrow morning, when they face Western New Mexico for the second time.
