Irvine, Calif. – The Adams State men's lacrosse team struggled to find momentum against Concordia University Irvine, falling 19-2 in a Saturday afternoon contest at Golden Eagles Field.
The Grizzlies (0-2) faced a dominant offensive effort from the Golden Eagles (3-5), who put up five goals in the first quarter and never looked back. Adams State was held scoreless through the first three quarters before breaking through with two goals in the final period.
Hunter Bennett and Alex Wilderboer provided the lone tallies for the Grizzlies, each finding the back of the net in the fourth quarter. Wilderboer led the team with three shots on goal, while Bennett made a strong impact defensively with six caused turnovers.
Despite facing a relentless attack, goalie Ryan Berger stood tall in the net, recording 15 saves against 52 shots faced. However, the Grizzlies were outmatched in possession, struggling on faceoffs (6-of-25) and clearing attempts.
Adams State will hit the road again next week to play two exhibition matches in Utah.
