The Grizzlies Play an All-Around Great Game Giving Them Game Four and a Series Win

Colorado Springs, Colorado — In the final game of a four-game series against the University of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Adams State claimed victory, winning the series 3-1. The score of the fourth game was 12-6. With Sunday's win, the Grizzlies hold a record of 11-19 (7-5 RMAC).

The Grizzlies came out hot on the offensive side for the fourth game in a row against UCCS by scoring runs in the first and second innings to take a quick 2-0 lead. In the first inning, Adams State was able to score on a Josh Parks single to right field that brought in Seth Reker, and in the second inning, the Grizzlies scored on an Ayden Tauscher RBI groundout that brought in Caleb Eiguren.

The Grizzlies' strong offensive performance continued throughout the entire game as they consistently added to their score, scoring in seven of the nine innings, keeping constant pressure on the Mountain Lion offense. For the Grizzlies, multiple players shined, contributing several RBIs and hits during the game. They finished with four players collecting multiple hits and four others garnering multiple RBIs. This group included Parks, Tauscher, Reker, and Phil Carter, who each had two or more RBIs on the day. Carter stood out as he recorded two hits and five RBIs, including a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning. This lead solidified the Grizzlies' offense, allowing them to maintain their advantage for the rest of the game. Josiah Hall also came through in the seventh inning, hitting a two-run double that extended the Grizzly lead to 11-5.

On the mound for the Grizzlies, Joseph Marek got the start, delivering another strong performance that allowed the Grizzlies to pull away late and secure the win. Marek finished with a line of 5 ⅓ innings, allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, 5 walks, and recording 4 strikeouts. He started the game with two scoreless innings before giving up a solo home run in the third. However, the home run did not deter the freshman from throwing strongly and competing, as he managed to navigate through a few walks later in the game to complete his outing. Justin Arellano followed Marek on the mound, earning the win for the Grizzlies after they took the lead in the seventh inning. Arellano finished with a final line of 2 ⅔ innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, and striking out 1. He continues to be a reliable presence in the Grizzly bullpen, achieving his first career win in today's game.

The story for today's game again was the free passes as the Grizzlies were yet again able to win the freebie war against UCCS. In the game, UCCS committed 5 errors, walked 7, and hit 4 batters adding up to 16 free passes. For the Grizzlies they committed 1 error, walked 6, and hit 1 batter adding up to 8 free passes. The 16 free passes the Grizzlies were able to collect added up to multiple runs giving their offense the power to take the lead late and close out the game strong.

Looking forward the Grizzlies will move on to their next series which will be against Metropolitan State University of Denver. The series will again be a four-game series and will be held at home here in Alamosa, Colorado at the Grizzlies home field. Game one will be played at 3 PM MST on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday and a single 9-inning game on Sunday to wrap up the series. The Grizzlies will look to continue their great play against a good Metro State team this upcoming weekend.
