Colorado Springs, Colo. — The Adams State Grizzlies dropped the final two games of their series against UCCS on Saturday. The games started early due to an impending storm but didn't slow down the Mountain Lions' bats as they defeated the Grizzlies 6-5 and 11-3 to finish the series.
Game 1: Adams State 5, UCCS 6
The Grizzlies started Game 3 of the series hot, bringing in two runs in the first inning. Sydney Rodriquez and Grace Hendrickson each secured a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.
A three-run homer for the Mountain Lions in the third inning gave them a one-run lead.
Adams State regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Caylie Euiguren was walked, bringing home the Grizzlies' third run. The lead changed again later that inning when Hendrickson and Emily Sauvageau scored on an error by the Mountain Lions' second baseman.
A two-RBI home run in the bottom of the fifth put UCCS ahead by one—the last run of the game and a lead they would not relinquish.
Celie Page took the loss in the circle for the Grizzlies, dropping to 0-12 on the season. She recorded three strikeouts and five walks.
Game 2: Adams State 3, UCCS 11 (5 innings)
The Grizzlies dropped the final game of the series in five innings after they were unable to contain the Mountain Lions' bats.
Ellie Heiser stole second after reaching on a single, allowing Euiguren to score. She later came home on a passed ball to give Adams State the lead in the top of the second inning. But the Mountain Lions responded in the bottom of the frame, reclaiming a 3-2 lead with a stolen base and an RBI single.
The Grizzlies tied it up in the top of the fourth when a throwing error allowed Heiser to score her second run of the day. However, a seven-run bottom of the fourth proved too much to overcome, and Adams State ultimately fell 11-3.
Brooklyn Burgess took the loss in the circle after allowing nine runs on 11 hits with one strikeout.
The Grizzlies will return home next weekend to take on the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls in a four-game series.
