Chadron, Neb. — The Adams State softball team closed out its 2025 season Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader at Chadron State. Though the Grizzlies came up short in both contests, the team showed heart and determination to the final out, offering a glimpse into a promising future for the program.
Game 1: Chadron State 9, Adams State 1
In the opener, Adams State struggled to gain early momentum, falling 9–1 to the Eagles. Grace Hendrickson provided a highlight moment with a towering solo home run in the fifth inning, accounting for the Grizzlies' only run. Catcher Caylie Eiguren continued her strong season, going 2-for-2 at the plate and showing her consistency as a bright spot in the lineup. However, defensive miscues and early walks allowed Chadron State to build an insurmountable lead, ending the game after five innings.
Despite the scoreline, Adams State flashed moments of defensive sharpness, turning a pair of double plays behind starter Aubree Davis. The Grizzlies' effort and resilience never wavered, setting the tone for the afternoon's second game.
Game 2: Chadron State 7, Adams State 3
The Grizzlies came out energized in the season finale, battling Chadron State deep into the game before ultimately falling 7–3. Adams State put together one of its better offensive performances of the season, racking up nine hits across the lineup. Infielder Sydney Rodriguez and Caylie Eiguren each posted two-hit games to pace the offense.
Ali Davis delivered a clutch RBI double in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2–2, while Makenzie Simon added another big hit, driving in a run with a double of her own. Adams State briefly seized momentum, but Chadron State answered with a decisive four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth. Pitcher Celie Page worked six tough innings in the circle, scattering nine hits while striking out one in a complete-game effort.
This marks the end of the Grizzlies' 2025 campaign. With a young group and only one senior graduating (Hendrickson), the Grizzlies will look forward to next season. The foundation laid this year, highlighted by the growth of several underclassmen, points toward a bright future in Alamosa.
