Grizzlies Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 on the Road Against CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colorado — The Adams State Women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday afternoon at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium in Pueblo, Colorado. With the loss, the Grizzlies move to 5-10-1 (1-9-0 RMAC).

CSU Pueblo struck early, finding the back of the net in the sixth minute to give the ThunderWolves a 1-0 lead. Adams State continued to battle throughout the opening half keeping the ThunderWolves scoreless the rest of the half while also looking to find an equalizer on the offensive side. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, the ThunderWolves were able to hold Adams State scoreless in the first half and carry their one-goal advantage into halftime.

In the second half, CSU Pueblo was able to extend its lead early as CSU Pueblo converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute to make it 2-0. For the Grizzlies, they continued to search for scoring opportunities but were unable to break through against the ThunderWolves' defense keeping the score at its final of 2-0.

Overall, Adams State finished with seven shots, including four on goal, while CSU Pueblo recorded five shots and four on target. The Grizzlies also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, creating opportunities to generate offense throughout the match. Goalkeeper Mari Jimenez played all 90 minutes for Adams State, recording two saves. Individually for the Grizzlies, Lorena Vargas-Galvan led the way with two of Adams State's seven total shots, placing both attempts on goal to account for two of the team's four shots on target. Annabell Haugen and Ashlynn Mustain each recorded one shot on goal, while Aja Lister, Lauren Ocampo, and Murphy Tinjum each added a shot in the contest.

Despite the result, the Grizzlies continued to compete and create opportunities, particularly in the second half, when they matched CSU Pueblo with four shots. Adams State will look to regroup and build on those opportunities as the regular season continues.

Looking Forward

Up next for the Grizzlies, Adams State will look to bounce back at home in its next RMAC matchup against Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, October 25th. Sunday's match against the Orediggers will begin at 1:30 p.m. MST and mark the Grizzlies' final home match of the 2026 season. As Adams State continues through the final stretch of the season, the Grizzlies will look to close out their home schedule on a strong note and are hoping for plenty of support from the Adams State community on Sunday.
