Colorado Springs, Colo. — Adams State traveled to Colorado Springs on Saturday to face Colorado College. The Grizzlies dropped the road contest, 21-10.
In a back-and-forth game, the Grizzlies were unable to contain the sharp-shooting Tigers. Colorado College finished with 55 shots, including 36 on goal, and scored on 22 of those attempts.
The Grizzlies got on the board with 11:55 left in the first period when Cohen Taylor scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 2-1. Malik Maxwell added another unassisted goal with 5:17 remaining in the first.
Adams State was held scoreless in the second period before Tre Williams found the net with 7:56 left in the third on a man-up goal, assisted by Danny Joy. Maxwell added his second goal of the day off an assist from Taylor to make the score 17-4. With two seconds remaining in the third, Maxwell completed his hat trick with an unassisted goal.
Adams State opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a Cole Murri unassisted goal at the 12:37 mark. Williams added another just 20 seconds later off an assist from Noah Arteaga. Murri recorded his second goal of the day on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Maxwell. Joy added his own goal with 5:08 left off an assist from Williams, trimming the deficit to nine.
Arteaga scored the final goal for the Grizzlies with 2:45 remaining on an unassisted effort, bringing the total to 10 goals.
Adams State went 12-for-21 on clears and collected 24 ground balls.
The Grizzlies (0-3, 0-1 RMAC) will take next week off before facing Florida Southern on March 3 in Grand Junction, Colo.
