Denver — Adams State split Sunday's doubleheader at Regis Baseball Field, earning an 8-7 win in the opener before falling 11-3 in the second game.

Game 1: Adams State 8, Regis 7

The Grizzlies used a five-run fifth inning and held off a late rally to secure the first win of the day.

Josh Parks delivered an RBI double in the fifth before Macs Carrillo followed with a two-run single to give Adams State a 6-3 lead. The Grizzlies added two more in the sixth as Tauscher drove in a run and another scored on a throwing error, stretching the advantage to 8-3.

Regis plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to one, but P. Ruiz recorded the final out to earn the save.

Daniel Hoodak (1-1) picked up the win in relief.

Adams State finished with 12 hits and did not commit an error. Parks, Carrillo, Osaias Hinojosa and Tauscher each had two hits, while Tauscher and Carrillo drove in two runs apiece. Pruitt added three stolen bases as the Grizzlies applied pressure on the basepaths.
