Adams State Falls to No. 20 Rockhurst in Home Opener

Alamosa, Colo. — The Adams State men's lacrosse team opened its 2026 season at home Friday afternoon against No. 20 Rockhurst University. The Hawks showcased a balanced offensive attack, with 10 different players scoring, and pulled away for a 21-5 victory over the Grizzlies.

Rockhurst jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the first two minutes of play. Jacob Parsons answered shortly after, scoring the Grizzlies' lone goal of the first period on an unassisted effort. The Hawks continued to outpace Adams State for the remainder of the half, scoring 12 additional goals. Parsons added two more goals for the Grizzlies before halftime, assisted by Cole Murri and Logan Brewer, respectively.

Rockhurst's offense slowed slightly in the second half, scoring seven goals across the third and fourth quarters. Adams State found the net late in the third quarter when Tre Williams scored on an assist from Malik Maxwell. Parsons capped an impressive offensive performance with an unassisted goal midway through the fourth quarter.

The Hawks controlled the stat sheet, outshooting the Grizzlies 56-31 and holding a 35-13 advantage in shots on goal. Adams State struggled in possession, losing the faceoff battle 25-4 and the ground ball count 39-15. The Grizzlies committed 16 turnovers, compared to 14 by Rockhurst. Goalies Ryan Berger and Jamisen Blackwell each played 30 minutes, with Berger making nine saves on 23 shots and Blackwell stopping five of 13.

The Grizzlies return to action next Saturday at home at 1 p.m., opening Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play against No. 15 Colorado Mesa University.
