WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma — In a Saturday doubleheader, the Grizzlies dropped both games to Southwestern Oklahoma State University to fall to 0-3 on the weekend series. The Grizzlies dropped game one by a final score of 9-6, and game two by a final score of 12-3. By dropping both games Saturday, the Grizzlies fall to 1-6 on the young season.
Game 1
In game one, the Grizzlies jumped out early in the first two innings of the ball game before SWOSU was able to slowly chip away at the Grizzly lead, before finally taking over late to hold on to the win by a final score of 9-6.
For the Grizzlies early, they were able to take a quick 6-1 lead in the second inning taking advantage of an error by the SWOSU SS that led to a total of 6 runs in the second inning. Along with the error by SWOSU, the Grizzlies also collected RBI hits from Macs Carrillo, Christian Altamirano, and Josh Parks. Carrillo came up with a single through the right side, while Altamirano singled up the middle, and Josh Parks hit a 3-run home run to extend the lead to 6-1.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, the SWOSU offense was able to slowly chip back scoring 3 runs in the second, 1 run in the third, 1 run in the fourth, 2 runs in the fifth, and 1 run in the sixth to extend their lead to 9-6 going into the last inning of the ball game whereas the Grizzlies were not able to get any further offense going after the second inning.
Starting the game for the Grizzlies was Julian Garza who finished the game with a final line of 4 ⅓ innings, giving up 8 hits, 8 runs(7 earned), and striking out 1 batter. Following Garza was Justain Arellano who closed out the game for the Grizzlies, throwing the final 1 ⅔ innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 run, and collecting 1 strikeout. For the Grizzlies pitching staff their final line was 6 innings pitched, allowing 10 hits, 9 runs(8 earned), and collecting 2 strikeouts. Garza received the loss in the game, pushing his record to 0-2 on the young season.
Individually for the Grizzly offense, Altamirano, Parks, and Carrillo all had very solid days at the plate. Altamirano finished the day 2 for 3, scoring 1 run, 1 RBI, and walking 1 batter. Parks finished the game 1 for 3, with 3 RBIs, a home run, and a walk. For Carrillo, he collected 2 hits in 3 at bats, while collecting 1 RBI, and 1 run. Outside of these three Grizzlies, collecting hits were Tauscher, Isaiah Pruitt, and Austin Yi for a total of 8 hits for the Grizzlies in the game.
Game 2
In game two today, the Grizzlies again jumped out to a quick lead scoring 2 runs in the first inning off of the SWOSU starter. They received RBI singles from both Ayden Tauscher and Ryan Vandever. Tauscher scored Christian Altamirano after he started the game off with a double, and Vandever scored Tauscher after his RBI single. Unfortunately for the Grizzly offense the SWOSU pitching staff got on a serious roll, only allowing hits to freshman Andrew Carillo who collected his first two collegiate hits in today's game and finished 2 for 3, with a run scored. For the game the Grizzlies secured 5 hits, scored 3 runs, walked 3 times, and left 5 base runners on base for a slow offensive game in game two.
On the mound for the Grizzlies in game two was freshman Jacob Janata. Janata struggled early in today's outing after the Grizzlies started hot which allowed SWOSU to come back in today's game after the hot start by the Grizzlies. In today's game Janata finished with a final line of 3 ⅔ innings, allowing 8 hits, 7 runs, walking 5, and collecting 1 strike out. With the tough outing, Janata collected his first loss of the season and moves his record to 0-1 on the season. Following Janata was Osaias Hinojosa, and Dylan Schaefer. Hinojosa had a tough outing after throwing extremely well yesterday in Friday's first game of the series. For Hinojosa, he finished the day throwing ⅓ of an inning, allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, and 4 walks. For Schaefer, he had a solid day throwing the final 2 innings for the Grizzlies, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, and collecting 2 strikeouts. Overall for the Grizzlies, they finished with a final line of 6 innings pitched, allowed 14 hits, 12 runs, walked 10, and collected 3 strikeouts.
Overall today, SWOSU was able to win game two by a final score of 12-3. Their strong pitching and consistent offense led to the game two win and put them up 3-0 in the series. The Grizzlies will look to bounce back tomorrow, playing their best game of the series to salvage the series and win 1 game before heading home back to Alamosa, Colorado.

The Grizzlies will again play in Weatherford, Oklahoma at 11 AM MST looking to close out the series with a win, and take some momentum into their next weekend series.
