Grizzlies Struggle Dropping Both Games Against New Mexico Highlands

LAS VEGAS, NEW MEXICO — In the Grizzlies Saturday Doubleheader, they dropped both games losing Game One by a final score of 15-4 and Game Two by a final score of 4-2. The two losses for the Grizzlies moved them to a record of 10-31 (5-18 RMAC).

Game One

In game one, New Mexico Highlands left no doubt, riding an explosive early surge to a commanding 15–4 win over Adams State. The Cowboys wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for 10 runs in the first two innings and putting Adams State in an immediate hole they couldn't climb out of. New Mexico Highlands racked up 15 hits on the day compared to the Grizzlies 8 giving them a dominating performance.

For Adams State, Christian Altamirano led the way with a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI, while Josh Parks also recorded two hits and scored a run. Ryan Vandever provided a highlight with a triple and an RBI, and Osaias Hinojosa contributed a double and a run driven in.

However, Adams State struggled to contain Highlands' offense from the outset. Starter Osaias Hinojosa took the loss after allowing 10 runs (nine earned) in just 1.2 innings. Justin Arellano provided some length out of the bullpen, tossing four innings while giving up five runs, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Despite turning two double plays and collecting eight hits, Adams State couldn't match the firepower of a Highlands team that took control early in today's first game and never gave it back to the Grizzlies.

Game Two

In Game Two, Adams State showed a much more competitive edge in a 4–2 loss to New Mexico Highlands, but ultimately couldn't find the timely hit needed to finish out a Game Two win.

The Grizzlies put together six hits on the day and created opportunities, but struggled to string together offense in key moments. Ayden Tauscher sparked things near the top of the lineup, going 1-for-3 with a run scored and adding pressure on the bases with a stolen base. Ryan Vandever also crossed the plate, finishing 1-for-3, while Isaiah Pruitt contributed a hit and swiped a bag of his own.

Adams State's two runs came from productive at-bats, with Osaias Hinojosa driving in one and Seth Reker adding another RBI. Christian Altamirano chipped in with a double, continuing to be a steady presence offensively.

On the mound, Joseph Marek battled through 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits. While Highlands was able to collect hits, Marek limited further damage and kept the Grizzlies within striking distance throughout his outing. Austin Delgado followed out of the bullpen and provided a clean 2/3 innings to keep things close late.

Defensively, Adams State turned two double plays, helping erase potential scoring threats and keep momentum within reach. Despite one error, the Grizzlies largely played a cleaner game compared to earlier in the series. The difference came down to execution in key moments. Adams State had chances to apply pressure but couldn't capitalize enough to overcome Highlands' four runs.

While the result didn't fall their way, the Grizzlies showed resilience and a more balanced performance, keeping the game tight and giving themselves opportunities late. The Grizzlies will look to bounce back tomorrow with the final game of the four-game series against Highlands. Tomorrow's final game will begin at noon MST and will be the final time that the Grizzlies play Highlands this year.
