Grizzlies Look to Rebound After Doubleheader Sweep

Alamosa, Colo. — A fast start in Game 1 gave Adams State early momentum, but Colorado Mesa responded in a big way and carried that surge through both games to sweep Friday's doubleheader, 11-3 and 20-1.

The Grizzlies answered quickly in the opener after Colorado Mesa pushed four runs across in the first inning. Osaias Hinojosa provided the spark, launching a three-run home run to right field to pull Adams State within one.

That momentum, however, was short-lived.

Colorado Mesa responded with two runs in the second and continued to take advantage of defensive miscues throughout the game. The Mavericks added three more in the fifth before tacking on late insurance to secure the 11-3 win. Adams State was limited to four hits, with Hinojosa accounting for all three RBIs. Six defensive errors led to five unearned runs for the Mavericks.

In Game 2, the Mavericks carried that momentum into another fast start. Colorado Mesa plated four runs in the first inning and steadily built its lead with multi-run frames in the third and fourth to take control early.

Adams State broke through in the fourth inning when Ayden Tauscher came around to score, but it would be the lone run of the game. The Mavericks continued to add on late, finishing with 20 runs on 20 hits in the 20-1 decision.

Christian Altamirano led the Grizzlies offensively in Game 2 with two hits, while Tauscher, Macs Carrillo, Osaias Hinojosa, and Josh Parks each added one.

Across the doubleheader, Adams State used multiple arms but was unable to slow down a Colorado Mesa lineup that combined for 31 runs on 33 hits.

The Grizzlies will look to regroup and close out the series on a strong note in Saturday morning's finale.
