Matt Munhall enters his first year at the helm of the Adams State Grizzlies men’s soccer program in 2019.

Arriving late in the summer just before the start of the season, Munhall will look to put his stamp on the Grizzlies soccer program right away, while spending the offseason focusing on developing a strong foundation that will serve as a building block for future success.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and the trust put in me to build up this ASU soccer program. I have learned over my years in coaching that success does not come overnight, but with a strong foundation, good team culture and the willingness to persevere, program expectations can and will change. I am excited to see what we can build on this great platform that Adams State provides for their student-athletes.”

Munhall brings with him 11 years of experience in the collegiate coaching ranks, most recently serving as the Head men’s coach at the Oregon Institute of Technology from 2012-2018. During his seven seasons in Oregon, Munhall built his program from one of the lowest performing teams in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), to a team that was a consistent contender in the CCC tournament, with a shot at a national tournament bid. His team in 2016 started the season with an 8-1-2 record, being acknowledged in the NAIA national poll as Receiving Votes (RV), for the first time in program history.

Prior to being in Oregon, Munhall served as a D2 women’s assistant coach at St. Anslems College in Manchester, New Hampshire, as well as being a men’s and women’s assistant and goalkeeper coach at his alma mater Principia College in Elsah, Illinois from 2008-2011.

In his playing days, Munhall was a goalkeeper at Principia College, where as a senior he captained a team and defensive unit that gave up just .66 goals against per game and an overall record of 17-2-1. The team's defensive effort lead them to a SLIAC Conference Championship and earned the 2007 team a bid to the NCAA D3 National Tournament for only the second time in school history, while he individually picked up SLIAC All-Conference and NCAA All-Region accolades along the way.

Coach Munhall also has experience in the club coaching ranks, where in Oregon his high school boys team won the SOCL league and took first place at the Rogue Memorial Cup. He also guided a U18 girls team to a New Hampshire State Cup championship, while serving on the NH ODP coaching staff for one season.
Munhall will also be serving on the New Mexico ODP coaching staff in his offseason at Adams State.

In addition to his coaching, Coach Munhall holds his masters degree in Recreation and Sports Sciences from Ohio University in Athens, OH. He has also completed his United Soccer Coaches (USC) National, Advanced National and Premiere Coaching Diplomas.
